So I have been working on the reloader for some time now and was wondering if anyone has a more efficient / effective method to start loads ect. my steps thus far are typically this

Find Check OAL to lands back it off 20Thou check if it fits in and chambers fine from the mag..

if not i seat the bullet to the point it works from the mag

Then i work up loads by 0.5 untill i find the most accurate with each powder
then work from 0.4 lighter by 0.1 loads untill 0.4 higher than most acurate load example (45.6,45.7,45.8 ,45.9, 46, 46.1,46.2,46.3,46.4,)

Find the Most accurate load for each powder at this length

Reload different Seating depths with each powder at most accurate charge.

Evaluate the groupings and pick my load from there.

i have not really played with crimps much aside from my 45-70 roll crimping .
typically i use a very very light crimp on necked caseings.

So if anyone has a better method id love to hear it :canadaFlag:

Your method is very good if you want a wide spectrum of data to choose a load from. If you have a specific goal such as high velocity, you can skip some steps.

You can do one round of each weight (for a single powder/bullet combo) in the load range to test for pressure signs, then after you find what you feel is the maximum charge you are comfortable with in your rifle, you can load to test for groups.

For accuracy you could for example do every .5 grains for the last two or three weights in the range to see if you find accuracy you are happy with. If not you try a different powder and have saved lots of time and components.

Once you find promising accuracy in a velocity range you like, then test from there with your previous methods to tweak the load.

It all depends on your goals, and your budget. :)
