Reloading for 204 Ruger

Had good results with 32 grain V-Max bullets and H322, then developed a second load using the 39 Grain Blitzking and H4895.

Preferred the heavier bullet at its BC made things a little easier when I challenged myself and pushed it out to 500 yards

I currently developed a load for my CZ 527 varmint in .204. The powder I used was Benchmark and find it works great in both a 39grain blitzking (26.5 grains BM ad 0.48 5 shot group) and a 40 grain berger hollowpoint(26 grains BM and .34 4 shot group).
Both these bullets are great as they stabilize in a factory 1 in 12 twist barrel and the BK has a great ballistic coefficient which is why it's so well liked. Drops coyotes and gophers real nice as well.

I never drop a gopher with my .204. They tend to launch in the air first.... insides going one way, muskoskeletar portion the other. lol

My Tikka prefers 40gn V-max bullets
Found the same thing with my Savage Model 12 LRPS Left Port. Was not getting very good grouping with any 32 g or 35 g bullets, went to the Hornady 40 g Vax and Hod H322 powder and the groups tightened right up. Have been looking for Sierra 39 g Blitz Kings which I have heard are good, but have been unable to find any in the last 2 years

X-Reload always has them in stock in 100 or 500 packs. I bet your groups will even be better with the 39 gr.

32 gr Sierra with IMR 4895 works very well in my Kimber. I have tried many different combinations and in the end settled with 40 gr Vmax with Varget powder. This is what my rifle likes and I get amazing accuracy and consistency with this combination. Every rifle is different and it takes a lot of experimenting to find that sweet combination. Highest velocity doesn't always give you the best accuracy. It isn't that hard to exceed 4000 fps with your 204 but I'll bet you don't get nice tight groups. Good luck, be safe, and have fun.

i have tried all sorts of powder/ bullet combos to try and duplicate the velocity hornady lists on there ammo boxes... I have done extensive testing with 4 different firearms as well... threw my chrony the fastest the Superformace 32 gr went across my chrony at 3985 from a CZ527 Varmint.. So do don't believe what the box tells you... there are to many variables to compare.. different barrels etc etc...

For 32gr bullets im using H322.. Sorry i don't have the book on me right now so i cannot say how many grains i use but velocity is 3900fps..
For 40gr V max im using Varget and getting 3850 fps... There a little harder to stabilize and shoot as accurate as the 32gr bullets but if u can get the velocity but they tend to turn enough RPM to stay stabilized... with this load i can ring a 3" gong at 280 yards all day. so its more then accurate enough for coyotes.

In my findings though i did find u need a heavier cupped primer.. I use CCI BR4 or 450 Mags with no issues. The Standard 400s i was blowing primers like it was no ones business.

Good luck!!! its a sweat little round and no better satisfaction then watching a dog fall i the scope :D
Josh

How much varget are you using to get 3850 fps with the 40gr v max?
