Reloading for 357 mag in a carbine. School me

Revolvers like GP100 are pretty much omnivorous. :)
If you prefer just ONE common round for carbine and revolver, consider choosing a bullet and OAL first to feed reliably in your carbine.

Most people I talk to refer to the load as how much powder they put in the case. I was unaware that level load meant velocity. Thanks for clarifying, you should write a book of great advice for new reloaders

Nowhere did I say anything about using .357 data or using the same charge weights or anything that someone with the slightest clue could infer as such. A few of you remedial reading types saw fit to assume and think so anyway though.

Maybe reread what I typed. I was simply trying to clarify a statement that could easily be misinterpreted by an inexperienced reloader. I thought the the level load you spoke of may have been in regards to pressure or velocity. You have clarified that you meant velocity. Having never looked into this before I wonder if pressure might be more pertinent.

All good observations. I am not new to reloading. I have mostly rifle cartridge experience. (1000's of reloads) although I have reloaded 9mm and 45acp quite a bit. I am quite thorough and careful and dont load for things I dont know much about. Loading a handgun round for a carbine gives me pause, and I knew to stop here first for great info first. Please dont argue guys. I appreciate any concerns you all have, and understand clarity of words are important, as other less careful or experienced reloaders reading this could make a mistake. Its all good. I thank all of you for chiming in. It sure is a big help.
I have a fair bit of time to do this as its cold as ass up here and I have months to cobble this together. I have a chronograph to aid my development. Getting excited. Its just a bit daunting at times when I am learning and trying everything by myself with nobody to mentor me. Things like roll crimping and taper crimping are confusing when you dont know if its done right or at all.... hence my heavy reliance to Lee crimp dies. I just read that the lee crimp die is not optimum for 357 and stopped to look for advanced help from the start.

OP,
Pressure is pressure.
Makes NO difference if fired from a handgun or a rifle.

I cast for pistols & rifles & shoot plain base at jacketed velocities.

The proper diameter,Twist,Bhn hardness & lube eliminates leading.

Thousands of 55gr L FP GC's thru 1:9 twist direct impingement AR 15's w/o issues.
