Hi everyone, I had some questions about reloading for a Type 38 Arisaka Carbine.

I was gifted the rifle, bought a box of ammo for it and have shot the gun, and it didn't shoot to bad.

The ammo I used was Graf & Sons 6.5x50

Now that ammo is pretty expensive for it, I want to reload.

The components I have on hand are:

-IMR4350
-Remington Core-Lokt PSP 260/6.5mm DIA..264 bullets. 140 Grain
-CCI Magnum Primers
-Once fired brass

Am I able to craft any loaded ammo from what I have here?

I have found a few recipes online, but I want to hear from the good people of CGN.

Does anyone have any favourite recipes with any type of powder/bullet/primer combos?

Great looking rifle. I own 4 of them and am always reloading.
I use:
IMR 4064 33.6 gr
CCI Primer (non-magnum)
Hornady 160gr Interlock RN
COL 2.855

H4895
CCI Primer (non magnum)
PRVI 6.5 139gr FMJBT
H4895 34.5gr
COL 2.855

If you are going to use magnum primers, lower your powder by about 10% until you find the load that works for you.

What weight are your projectiles? Hornady reload manual shows for IMR4350:
140 gr - 35.0 gr fro 2300 fps to 39.2gr for 2600 fps (this is the max load)
160 gr - 32.7gr for 2100 fps to 37.2 gr for 2400 fps (max load)

Good luck and enjoy....

I had everything except the weight.... Thanks for the heads up. And thank you for the data.

140 Grain projectiles.

I will load up some ammo I think here shortly.

Ammo and brass is the toughest thing to find for the 6.5 Japanese. I have had good luck reforming 35 Rem brass to 6.5 Japanese. For informal target practice I use plain based lead bullets.
the old 3rd edition Lyman cast bullet handbook has several loads. the hornandy load book also has several loads for their bullets

I bought a box of ammo from CANADAMMO, so I have 20 pieces of brass from that, should get a few firings out of em.

I got a old box of Hornady ammo with it with a few reloads in it. Almost all of the brass is blown out on the neck and shoulder. I will never shoot them, but interesting.

So the winning recipe was:

-35.4 grains of IMR4350
-CCI Magnum Rifle Primer
-140 Grain .264 Core-Lokt

I might seat them just a bit shorter next time as some of them didn't like to feed correctly.

Could I use any 6.5mm crimp?

What brand of dies are you using? The sizing die de-primes as well, did you just break the pin having it too far extended? Harold

Call them and they will likely send you the part free.Although some folks like Lee,I'm not a fan.Harold

Doesn't "No Sale Sports " [Wholesale]stock lee stuff? Best to just go to the store yourself and have a look the pin should just be a standard size if it is removable from the expander button? Harold
