I'm currently making up gallery loads for my Mauser M1896 using Red Dot and Lyman cast 150 grain gas checked bullets (1,392 fps). I shot a steel match yesterday and at 200 yds I hitting the gong but the impact was so soft you could barely hear the impact. Not problems at 100 yards though.
I'd like to crank the muzzle velocity up to 1,800-1,900 fps and I wondering if anyone could recommend a load using IMR 4895 (I have 4 lbs available, so I may as well use it given current powder shortages). I understand that next years match will be out to 300 yards and my current load just doesn't cut it for either long range impact noise or accuracy that I want. Any solutions?
