I have several reloading books that all give me snippets of ideas. Sometimes asking someone also helps. Mostly I'm concerned about the brass - 500 cases picked up today and only a few showed any signs of abuse. Hopefully I can keep picking up cases through the winter. I have to say on an outdoor range I only found about 10% of the brass that came out of my pistol. The rest landed god knows where...

This! Lyman's Pistol and Revolver Reloading Handbook any edition is very good. The 9MM is easy to reload and there are lots of recipes out there, many of them listed here. If you are going to shoot a lot get yourself a Dillon Progressive Press. and fly at it. 9MM cases are tapered and can last several reloadings. Reloading pistol is not rocket science but you have to be careful and understand what you are doing.

Get into casting your own bullets and you have a hobby for life. With free brass and your own cast bullets you can reload 100 rds for about $4.25 for primers and $.75 for powder or about $5.00 per 100/ $2.50 for a box of 50.

I use 3.5 grains of W231 with Campro 147gr RNFP. Gives me a 130 power factor our of a M&P 9mm 4.25" barrel. Velocity averages 895fps for me. I shoot IPSC production minor with them.Very low recoil, a pleasure to shoot.

I usually always chime in on these threads. I cast for 9mm so reloading is a no brainer for me. Hs-6, titegroup, basically anything. I just saw 2000 rounds of 9mm for $379 shipped. You can barely buy the components for that to your door...

Where? I would assume 115gr bullets attached to those cases at that price.

Avoid XMetal coated bullets; nothing but trouble. Campro plated are great for starting, so are cast lead.
 
There are many opinions on reloading for 9 mm and mine is just one of them. I started with a single stage press and reloaded all of my centre fire pistol calibres: 9mm .38SPL/.357, .45ACP, 44-40, .40. I reloaded thousands of rounds on my single stage press, I batched every operation for efficiency and bought supplies in bulk. I could make 9mm for a bit over 12 cents/per. I still have cheap components loaded deep! I ended up with a progressive press and carried on but at a significant volume increase! I like reloading, it is a great way to learn about ammunition and how to optimise it for your guns and purposes. I like the self sufficiency of heading to the basement to make up 500 rounds for a trip to the club. Have I saved money over the long haul? Likely not given the investment in supplies, equipment and sundries. I have shot WAY more because I reload instead of purchase factory ammo.

Reloading is fun and an essential activity in my shooting sports hobby!
 
I use range pick up brass and tumble it immediately to get the dirt out and off. This saves wear on the sizer.

Then I size it all in a carbide die, but I use the shake and bake technique with a little lube of some kind to reduce the effort. As I size, and as I later hand prime, i cull any dodgy cases.

For a newbie, I suggest a medium speed pistol powder like 231.

I use cast lead bullets because the are cheap and accurate. DRG are about $70/1000.

I kind of figured it might be aluminum cased. I got enough 9MM brass to last me a lifetime. I don't care for the 115 bullet either.
