Reloaded some 22-250 w/varget + 36 grain varmint grenades, with 3/8" groups @ bullseye. Reloaded some 22-250 w/varget and 50 grain berger match varmint w/ 3/8" -1/2" (some hole in hole groups.)
My question is when I reloaded some 22-250 w/varget + 55 grain
Hornady V-max, I am getting 3/8" and less touching hole to hole groups
(clover leaf) but it is 1" high and 1" to the right of bullseye on the target
@ 100yds consistently. Is it the twist rate and the way these v-max bullets are leaving the barrel? I am using minimum to medium loads of powder.
The rifle is a Sako # 111-22-250 target barrel w? 1-14 twist.
If anybody has seen this please post a recomendation. Thanks

Barrel harmonics influence where the bullet will go. If the bullets are exiting the muzzle at a different spot in the "wave" of the barrel, it will impact at a different spot on the target. There is more to it, but this is the basics of it. Good luck, Eric

In understanding this situation, you must not forget some of the primary forces that are acting on the bullet. One of these forgotten forces is gravity. As the bullet leaves the barrel, gravity is pulling the bullet down and if the barrel harmonics are flipping the muzzle up at that millisecond , the bullet direction will be altered more than if the muzzle were "flipping" down. One load may place the bullet at the muzzle as the barrel is "flipped" down, and will have little effect, while another load may cause it to be flipped up. One way to change this "flip" is to attach vice grips ( with padding) to the end of your barrel to alter the harmonic flip. Another test is to shoot while laying the gun on its side - first one way, then another - or even upside down. I can't keep a straight face as I type this - I'm just kidding - great shooting !
