Reloading for a CZ Shadow

So I got my CZ Shadow the other day. Took her to the range with some factory ammo and some reloads (that I use in my G34 - 125g zeros 1.135 COAL). I figured I wouldn't have any issues as all of the reloads I bought pass the case-gauge test.

First reload I chambered jammed the gun up; I wouldn't go fully into battery and the slide didn't want to rack. I had to take the gun apart to get the round out.

Lesson learned. All chambers are not created equal, and the shadow won't accept the longer rounds that my glock will. I won't be making that mistake again.

Today I made some bullets (minus the primer and powder) to figure out what the max OAL is that will cycle the shadow. I think I am going to use 1.10 as a start.

I just thought I would share my moment of stupidity with my fellow reloaders.

On another note, the gun works well when I feed it ammo that it can swallow. :)
 
A lot of CZ's have tight chambers. Keep checking chambering with your dummy rounds to find yor max OAL with the zeros and you will be good to go. Good luck and be safe.

I don't reload, But I do have a shadow...


I had the same issue as you with some 147 grain stuff that was loaded too long. I then switched to 124gr BDX and have never had one single ammo related issued in my shadow and I've got close to 10k rounds down it now.

I use Bullseye 3.8 gr, DRG 124gr LRN, OAL: 1.12" no problem at all. I have a CZ 85C that had a similar feed problem before. I was told, and I will likely agree that CZ pistols has a shorter than normal chamber and a slightly tighter bore. What I do is test the length against the bore, uncrimped. And as it sits consistenly in the chamber, measure, lock the setting, then proceed with the factory crimp die.
 
Here are my 2 recipe's for my Shadow.

Berry's or Campro 124grn Bullet
4.3grn of Titegroup
1.125 OAL
Any Primer

Berry's or Campro 147grn Bullet
3.4grn of Titegroup
1.115 OAL
Any Primer

The 124s are a little on the hot side (lots of guys load 4.1grn) but I like them that way. The 147s are a little bit light but my Lee Autodisc is limited (I don't trust the charge bar that small). Both are very accurate and clean.
 
Nice thanks for the info guys. I chamber tested some dummy rounds with 125g zero jhp-c loaded to a coal of 1.10 and they dropped in and out with no problems. I am going to put some together with 5g of WSF and see how they shoot.
 
so, for these who use Berry`s bullets in Shadow: I was told that Berry`s a 0.001 larger than Shadow charmer can accept, so I could have some problems with feeduing....

anybody has this problem, or Berry`s work great in Shadow???
 
I didn't change my seating die at all when I switched from Campro to Berry's. They're fine in my Shadow as well.
 
kingdarb, glad you got it sorted out - I assume it was you I saw at SG on Weds last, I also had a Shadow. I was curious to know the resolution, glad I stumbled on this thread.

Never had an issue with Berry FMJs. OAL = 1.125. I also reload Zero 125gr JHPs, at OAL = 1.120.
