Reloading for a Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39

Thanks I bought some based on your advice. 4227 is available for 75$ tho I dunno if it's worth the premium over h110. I've been using 4198 and gonna try cfe black first. Should have in hand on Monday.

Any of those powders will work fine. But, take it easy with CFE Black, don't push the short stubby .30 Carbine bullets too fast or the groups might become erratic. They seem to like to go below 2200 fps in my experience.

The ruger American ranch 7.62 x 39 has a 310 bore diameter as confirmed by ruger. Mine just arrived today so I will slug the bore when I get some time with it.

They do. But they still can shoot 308 cal bullets into less than an inch :) So can any good rifle with reasonable tolerances.

A loose end of acceptable 308 bore and a tight end of acceptable 310 bore are probably the same barrel.

we just shot a ruger ranch 16 inch with SB 124 , not the most tightest but certainly acceptable.

those little rugers are fricken loud ay

LMAO! Yeah with the 16" barrel they bark a bit! especially with a good brake. I have the ranch in 5.56, 7.62x39 & 450 bushmaster ! I absolutely love the ranch rifles and IMO they are straight up performers that compete or outperform firearms 2-3x their value.

what r u shootin with em? critters or varmints?

Sorry for the slow answer WhelanLad,

Deer, and if the opportunity happens to arise, moose at shorter ranges.

Starting load of 27.5gr CFE BLK done up! Won't have a chance to shoot it until my Christmas vacation starts in a week, but soon! Can't wait to work this load up. With their claimed BC of .359, if I can get 2400-2450 fps out of the 16" barrel, that'd be a punchy lil sucker.

mmcintyre1220, totally agreed with your take on the Ruger American/Ranch. Its great value! Don't care much for the "plastic, zipper sounds, machining marks" complaints. Its a tool. Wasn't expecting a European custom rifle lol. They shoot great.
