I have (2) percussion Cimarron Uberti 1858 Remmies (.44) with Howell Conversion Cylinders (45LC). I was recently gifted ~12lbs of cast lead bullets with smokeless lube 255g , .452 dia. cast lead bullets.

In reviewing the Hodgdon Reloading sight for Trailboss, the closest bullet is 250g and the specs are as follows Starting Load: 4.5g, 606ft/lbs, 8,800 PSI and Max. Load: 5.8g, 727ft/lbs, 12,700 PSI.

Anybody see any issues with me using these bullets with Trailboss or any other issues?

Thanks, Retreever

I occasionally load smokeless powder for my 45 Colt guns.

I have the note "Mild" beside the load of 5.0 grains of TrailBoss with a 255 grain SWC cast lead bullet. Mine are Jet bullets. I use a 'medium' crimp, Winchester large pistol primers. The box says .452 diameter.

Good luck with your loading.

Re3iever: Don't see any reason why these bullets wouldn't be compatible with your guns and Trailboss powder. Hodgdon load data for the 250 grain bullet should certainly be safe to use. Likewise, any other suitable powder. As long as you stick to loads rated for those cylinders. Lead bullet, only.
For a more precise measure(Trailboss), you could always use the Hodgdon method for calculating max powder charge, with your bullet. Most cartridges I've tested with Trailboss seemed to perform best, around 80-85% load density. Including .45 Colt. But, that was in Colt-type conversion guns. Your guns may react differently.

Why not use a slower powder that results in either lower pressures, or higher velocities with the same pressure? I know Trailboss has a lot of fanboys, but it's a bulky, low velocity powder, not a low pressure powder.

Re3lever: Pickings seem mighty slim right now but, if you can manage to get your hands on either some Unique or Universal(essentially the same powder, ie: burn rate, performance), these have always performed well for me. Good performer in .45 Colt. Versatile, multi-purpose powder. Useful in shot shell. Plus, reduced-velocity rifle loads.
