With all the controversy about 7.62 and .308 has anybody had any luck brewing up a good handload for for this rifle. All we ever used was military IVI and it functioned fine,I'm curious on how it faired with handloads?

Sort of an academic question, considering that no one can get a SAP to take one of these rifles to the range. Handloading for one is similar to loading for any other semi - make sure the cartridges chamber freely, use a crimped bullet, remember that one of these rifles works the brass pretty hard, etc.

Years ago I had a few loads built up for my L1A1...
rather than list 'em all do have a prefered powder or bullet weight?

Really, with the adjustable gas port they will eat almost any load happily...anything out of Hornady or Speer books will work well.

Ya Tiriaq you got a good point there. Was just sitting here thinking about the good old days and the question popped in my head so I thought what the heck why not ask on gunnutz. Thanks guys for answering

Full length resizing and the same load data for any other .308/7.62 semi-auto rifle. Crimping hasn't been necessary in my M-1(.30-06) or M-14. Wasn't necessary in my M-1 Carbine either.

Because cycling action is pretty rough and hard, so there's a chance that the bullet gets pushed further back into the cartridge when chambering if it's not properly crimped.
