reloading for norinco m14

i have some 168 grain htbt barnes bullets for reloading which i am just getting into waiting for some more gear to come.Has anyone used imr - 4350 power local gunsmith recomended it for me and but i can't find any load date and i don't know what mountain of books he was looking at.Could anyone help me with this.
 
DO NOT USE 4350, it is too slow for the M14, you risk damaging your gun

use 4064, 4895, powders in that burnrate..
 
^^^ Yup, IMR 4350 burns waaaaayyy too slow for the M14. It could bend your op-rod. Stay away.

That said, IMR-4064, IMR-4895, and their Hodgdon equivalents work very well, as do BL-C(2) (which I've had considerable success with), Varget, H-335, and W-748.

My current load is with 150 grain bullets, but I'll share it anyway.

-Hornady 150 Grain soft-point boat-tail bullets loaded to 2.78" overall
-45.3 grains of BL-C(2)
-CCI 200 Primer
-Winchester/Prvi brass (.308, not 7.62 brass)
 
Like the others said, 4350 is too slow a powder. I use Win 748, which is on the slow side as well, but I trim the powder back and use a magnum primer. I have used 4064 and 4895, both are ok. The best groups was with the Win 748 recipe.
 
I'm currently working on a new load using surplus WC735 powder and 155 gr projectiles in Winny brass.

I'm using 44.3 gr powder right now, but think I'll bump it up a bit to close to 45.

Don't use 4350 in an m305, everyone talks about that powder because it's such an easy number to remember.

Hodgdon's website will list some loads for you, check the reloading forum. If that is too much work I can look in my books and see what you need, just PM me if the internet lets you down. I'm not exactly reliable and I'm kind of awkward to deal with, but I make good reloads for some reason.
 
If a guy is asking what powder to use, I doubt he's going to understand what a 'drop and go' load is. Where I come from, that means you use a scoop instead of a scale.

I do agree that ballC2 scoops well, the s**t meters almost as good as H380, which is another decent 308win powder
 
yes it meters like water he should buy himself a powder measure for his loading bench
 
I personally think the scoops are better than the volumetric throwers, just based on my own research. I measured the loads coming out of my thrower and found them to be within +/- 1 whole grain of h380 whereas the scoop was only +/- .4

Plink, how is WC735 going for you in the M14? I've been meaning to try it out for a while.

Have you used it in any other calibers?

going to see if they have any IMR-4064, IMR-4895 or get them to order it in for me cheaper then me buying it online only cost me like 32 bucks for the imr 4350.
 
lol you actually bought 4350? Man sorry to hear that, but you should know always take the internet's opinion before you listen to a gunsmith. I had to learn the hard way, but in the end it worked out because now I can act like a condescending douche in reloading threads.
 
well i realy can't blame him for going off a older book.But hey crap happens and i can still use the powder for other rilfes with 60+ grains in my 22-150 so it was not a waste
