For those of you with a Stevens 200 in .223:

What is the rate of twist ?

What bullets and loads have been giving you your best results ? I know every rifle may have its own sweet spot but I'm curious as to what others have been trying.

55 grn BTs in front of 28 grain of BLC2 has produced the odd 5 shot group under 0.5 inch at 100 yards.

69 grain SMKs and 25.5 grains of varget 2.25 inch at 300 yards.

Always 5 to 10 thou off the lands.

I'm sure somebody that can actually shoot would do better.

Nothing wrong with that shooting!

I have found the plain Sierra 50g with IMR 4895 to be extremely accurate, so much so that I cannot say just how well it shoots just because it shoots better than I can.

For hunting I am trying the Sierra 50g Blitz Medium Velocity which is less accurate in my gun but more suited to 223 velocity. Still shoots 1 1/4" at 100 yards at worst and 3/4" at best.

I'm not a benchrester like mystic so I guess this is the disclaimer.

I have had good luck with my stevens using H335 and a federal primer driving 40g nosler BT's and Winchester bulk pack 50g sp's. I have no luck with the moly coated vmax's @ 40g or 50g.......I doubt its the moly, it just doesnt like vmax's.

Worst of all is I have had zero luck with varget. I have a ton of it to burn too.

55 grain Vmax or Noslers ahead of 19.8 gr of IMR 4198. One of the targets from my Stevens 200

A thrown together load of 60 vmax and varget work really well in my Stevens. I had some loaded for another rifle, so tried it in the Stevens when it arrived. That was the end of load development for me.

I like using 13.5 grains of Blue Dot pushing 55gr FMJBT or 55gr V-Max bullets. I take out outdoor Christmas lights at 135 yards. I find that acceptable & cheap shooting. About 500 loads to the pound of powder.
