Reloading for the h@k sl8 .223

Do a ladder development load and take it to the range.

I just did that with a bolt action 223 and allowed me to narrow down my sweet spot with about 10 rounds. additional 4 rounds loaded with each powder weight increase confirmed it.

every gun shoots slightly different, has a slightly different barrel resonance and is bedded differently.

What are your expectations? 1 MOA @ 100 yards?
 
I'm looking for 1 Moa ... And would like to use heavier bullets but not sure what to use...62 grs... 75...77.. 80's... Just wondering. What other people have tried and curious what results they have gotten ..... And would. Use 200yards/meters for a final zero...... Going to use this gun for wolf/coyotes..... Thanks for any help or advice... Davide
 
I'm still in the development stage on my SL8, but have shot just under 1 MOA with 77 gr Sierra & 24.1 gr. RL15 in a FC case and CCI-41 primers. Temperature was around -5°C.

I am not familiar with your rifle, but believe the 60-69gr bullets should shoot well in that rifling twist. Some of the longer (heavier) bullets may not fit in your magazine even though they probably shoot well. A lot of people single load these longer rounds into AR-15 type actions with fast twist barrels.

200 yards and 200 meters are not the same. 200 meters is about 218 yards, and 200 yards is about 182 meters, but you may want to double check that yourself. I'm going from memory.

Speaking from an AR perspective, a zero at 25 meters means your AR will be set with a 300 meter battlesight zero. This means that all shots will be within a 9" circle at all ranges up to 300 meters. Bear in mind that this is from a 14.5" barrel using 62 gr projectiles and military powder. Change any one of those, and you can and most likely will alter your groups.

Your 1 in 7 twist will handle any of those bullet weights you mentioned. In that case, I would go with the heaviest I can reasonably buy and play around with my powder until I'm grouping tight. FWIW, 200 meters is plenty of distance to try and take out a coyote; I wouldn't risk injuring it with a "hail mary" shot.
