Reloading for the Remington 700 LTR

I've got one on the way and having never owned a Remington, I have no reloading knolagldge for it. My last precision rig was a Savage with a 1/10 twist but the Remmy has a 1/12. I'd like to hear some of your load data and any recommendations to bullet weights and powder choise's.

my Remington LTR 308 likes 169 to 170 grain HP GC cast bullets with 40 grains of H4895. works very well and accurate in my gun

or
178 amax 44gr Varget rem 9 1/2 primer 2.800" COL

both are sub MOA

Hornady match brass, 45 grains of varget and 175 gr Sierra match kings. 0.6 MOA any day back when my ltr was stock.

Hunting? Target shooting? What distance(s)?

Remington .308s tend to have throats that are quite long; if you are loading your ammo to magazine length, you can't avoid having a *lot* of jump, with spitzer bullets. So, choose a bullet that is tolerant of jump - good choices would be Sierra 168s, 175s, Berger 155.5s, etc. Don't choose a bullet that probably needs to be loaded a pretty specific distance from the lands (e.g. VLDs, Lapua 155, etc), if you want to be able to feed your ammo from your magazine.

Sierra 190 Matchkings can be loaded far out enough to touch the lands; the ammo ends up being way too long (3.0", or 3.1" IIRC?) to fit the magazine or to fit standard .308 ammo boxes, but can produce very good results.

I have had very good success with 155 Amax over Varget out of my bone stock LTR.

Both. Hunting out to maybe 3-400 yards or so (a very long shot here in BC) but target I would like to try and get out to 1000y. After some reading I've got some SMK 175 on the way so I expect that they will preform very well. Powder of chose would be Varget as I've got a couple lbs on hand.

SMK-175 deals fairly well with jump. Varget is an excellent choice to go with them. You'll get very good results.

For hunting, you might want to choose a different bullet for large game.

Katana there are a lot of really good bullets out there for target shooting.I've been using 175mks over 44.8 gr of varget for a very long time.Won me lots of gongs. Recently there have been a few new bullets arrive on the market that seemingly have the same ease of reloading but better ballistics which should (hopefully)lead to better accuracy in the end. As far as I'm concerned right now Berger is kind of leading the way with new bullet designs that have both a higher BC and are still easy to load. The 155.5,185Bt,185 hybrid and the 175 OTM tactical are just a couple to speak of. They are more expensive but have been getting some pretty impressive wins in competition.Might be worth a look before you buy a thousand 175 Mks!
As far as hunting goes there are lots out there too.I'm a fan of the Barnes 155gr TTSX but whatever floats your boat.

I've got several 150 TTSX in the garage for hunting so that too would be my first choice for a hunting round. I've also got 180 TSX as well but I think that they might be to heavy/long for the 1/12 twist in the LTR? What is your powder of choice for them??

150 will be perfect. I use 45.5 gr of varget and it shoots into an inch at 200m.
