hello cgn i come to you today with an issue i cannot solve. (i hope this is in the right section) i have a remington 700p in .308 and i have been reloading with a hornady classic and with horandy dies and brass and projectiles 165 gr sst and i use a lee brass trimmer with a pilot an drill to trim to lee's specifications

my problem is that some bullets come out great some don't and what i mean by that the bolt is really really hard to close sometimes, sometimes it doesn't close at all and is extremely stiff.. i have tried to shorten the COL as much as i could an it still did not make a difference i have reloaded 115 rounds out of the 115 rounds 9 of them are bad 7 of them are stiff. is it something to do with the brass? the bolt? the headspace? or the die itself? i am noticing when i close the bolt it is scraping at times the primer i can see visual markings on the primer. some other casing have it around the head of the brass it gets shiny.. I've tried googling my questions but I'm left unanswered if anyone has or had the same issue let me know how you resolved this thanks

lol are you reloading machine gun brass :)

with the ram up all the way you screw the sizing die all the way down until it touches the shell holder. Lower the ram and tighten die a quarter turn more. done
 
I agree that you need to bump your shoulder back a bit more - best investment is a case gauge (Wilson, Dillon, etc.) to verify your dies settings.
 
Was the brass you are using fired in your rifle? If not, what is it and where did you get it?

If it isn't from your rifle maybe you need a small base die?
 
How about a picture of the shiny spots on the brass that doesn't fit after you remove it. Seeing what it's doing may help troublesoot.
Need more details, as was asked already. What brand is the brass? Was it fired in your rifle or did you find it at the range? Why aren't you setting your sizing die to cam over? Are you using the seating die to give the neck a crimp? What are you setting the seating depth to?

I have a Rem 700 AAC-SD in 308 and it doesn't appear to be finicky with eating reloads. I've fed it loads that I developed for my Savage and it had no problems.
 
I don't get this "cam over" stuff.

If you want the case to be fully sized, turn it in another few revs so that the die hits the shellholder and stops right there. cam over is a pain.

That will get you full sizing, more speed and more comfort.
 
If your expander button is oversize, rough or you're not lubing the inside of the neck; the shoulder of the case can be pulled out, causing difficult chambering.
 
I had the same problem in my 243, it is possible that your gun has a small chamber size. If you are using brass that has been fired from other guns with larger chambers, the dies might not resize them small enough. I suggest buying new ammo and reloading those cartridges after being fired, or buy new brass to reload.
 
If you are getting bolt "rub" marks on your primer, check to ensure that your primers are fully seated. Ideally they should be seated below the level of the case base so they would not contact the bolt face on loading.
