Curious about load data for Z-Max bullets. There's load data published for Hornady 22241 and 22261 V-Max 40 gr and 50 gr respectively. But there's no data that I can find for the Z-max 22242 and 22262, which I believe are the exact same bullet except for a green versus a red tip. And I'm guessing that it's the different tip colour which prevents Hornady from assigning the same serial number.

I'm really thinking that they're interchangeable for loads, but I would like to give the opportunity for anyone to educate me if they are in fact different. Otherwise, it's very cheap for boxes of 500. That and the wife has been finding the zombie ammo to be cute.

Also, does anybody have an idea why Hornady isn't offering boxes of .308 cal? They sell completed cartridges of .308 win in the zombiemax format. So they obviously make the bullets.

Thanks for any imput.

VM = ZM

Same data... I picked up 10 boxes of 500 ZM's in 40/50/55 grain and load them in K-Hornet and .223... they are identical to the VM's that I also load.

in .223 calibre, I do believe that VM = ZM.

Not the case in other calibres, as has been demonstrated with some pretty nice cross sections on ARF com.

AFAIR:

7.62x39 Z-Max = SST

.308 win Z-Max = A-Max

Pistol rounds are... one of the "Critical" lines... Duty? Defense? Can't remember.

EDIT: Either way, these are lead core, copper jacketed bullets of a specific weight, and can be loaded as such.

I paid $180 ($200 - 10%) for a box of 500 of the .308 168gr ZMAX bullets locally in Ottawa (Stittsville Shooting Range). No one else would touch them because they had no idea they were AMAX bullets. I tried to explain it to some people but they insisted they were a newly designed frangible bullet that required special load data. Exact same price as AMAX bullets but were actually in stock (this was peak component shortage time a little while ago).

If you can find it for cheaper than AMAX, that would be a great deal, but everywhere I've found them they are the same price as AMAX.

The 308 168gr ZMAX loaded ammo is the same as their 308 match ammo with AMAX bullets. Even the brass is the Hornady match brass (headstamps are marked as such). More consistent weight than their regular 308 brass without the match headstamp (I think one is made by a contractor and not Hornady themselves, don't know which though).
The 30-30 and 44 mag ZMAX are the same as their FTX ammo. Bonded bullets meant for hunting.

With the Zmax you don't have to shoot the zombies in the head like you would with regular bullets, a body shot will work.
That's the new technology at work.
