Reloading IMR SR 4756 - info needed

Got some and would like to use it up!
Can’t find find any reloading data on it!
Was discontinued years ago!
I believe my uncle used it for pistol and rifle!

Wouldn’t be ideal for those calibers. I use it for reloading 12ga slugs. Primarily a shotgun powder and cast bullet loads.

I have used SR 4756 in a number of handgun rounds, after being gifted a can with a few pounds in it. There were no surprises and the loads performed fine. The 45th Lyman Reloading Handbook (1970) has a lot of loads for .38 Spec., .357 Mag., .44 Spec., .44 Mag., .45 Colt, 45 AutoRim, and .45 ACP. I also used it in 10 mm Auto and .40 S&W.
My loads were mostly pussycat type, especially in .44 Mag
Let me know what cartridge you may be interested in and I'll send you some possible loads. Be prepared to start LOW!

IIRC it worked well in 9x40 and 357sig open guns.

your uncle was probably using that powder under cast lead bullets for plinking and low cost practice rounds in those cartridges. my lyman cast bullet handbook third edition lists it for a number of straightwall and bottleneck cartridges exclusively for low velocity lead bullet loads. it appears to be somewhat temperamental as the minimum load and max loads are only a few grains apart in a large bottleneck rifle case so treat this powder with extreme caution. it is more commonly used as a shotshell powder with most gauges and applications. if you are determined to use it up make a call to customer service or tech support at hodgdon.

Google Imr pistol powder data. I use 4756 in 38 Special, 357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Special, 44 Mag, 44-40, 45 Colt. A little smokey, but not bad. I lucked into about ten pounds of it a while back and am working my way through it. - dan
