reloading Marlin 1895 in 45-70 for deer and bear - powders and bullets suggestions

Out of a pre-extra safety Marlin 45-70 54gr-IMR3031 Hornady 300gr HP .536" 3 shot group at 100 yards with 4 X Leupold. 350gr Hornady FP 44gr -IMR 4198 group .504"

Does anyone know where I might get some ALLIANT reloader 7 power? All the places I’ve checked are out of stock. You can pm me directly if you wish. I know it’s a long shot asking this question but who knows

Hornady 350 fp with near max load of h4895 was surprisingly accurate out of mine at a 100m, I had to switch front sight to a thinner one and a skinner peep sight on the receiver during load development because my groups with my eyes and original sights were laughable. Always wanted to give reloaded 7 try

My last guide gun load was a 405 grain Remington soft point and H322 I believe. I hammered a moose with it and I think that bullet is still going .... I think it is hard to come by those old 405 grain soft points now. My next choice would be the 400 grain Speer hot cor and the 350 Hornady FP has a devastating reputation as a good killer.

Thank you …. I will keep an eye out for those bullets and powder

When I had my guide gun I used to load a near max charge of H4198 under a Hornady 350FN. Chronograph velocity was identical to book velocity, recoil was manageable, accuracy was good. I fired one into a block of wood and after scraping every bit of wood out it weighed a surprising 326 grains. I'd trust that load to get any job done.

I used a full case of IMR4064 with a paper patched lyman cast 330 gr hp in my guide gun. Kills big bulls in one shot. Load also seemed to work in my guide gun with 405 gr lee cast bullet. At one point, those reloads were cheaper than using 22lr to shoot gophers.

They really brought home the saying, "Never get into a gunfight with a buffalo hunter. Ain't no such thing as cover." Those loads would cut a channel 6" deep and 24" long through clay, hit the gopher behind it, and take half the gopher with it leaving the other half.

AA2015 with Speer 400gr soft points works well. so does IMR3031 with Woodleigh 405s. 350 hot cores from Speer work unreal with H-4895 but not sure they will cycle through your gun some will on the marlins some will not.
