Merely wished to advise that if all you have is a plain base bullet and your getting leading that a reversed gas check in a straight wall case worked for me ......and they don't stick to the bullet if you were wondering ............my FIRST chronograph will confirm this.....
To take this reverse gas check a little further; if the base of the bullet doesn't get hot enough to burn even a hard lube or the plain lead base, and reading about paper patching would it not be possible to use instead of a copper gas check a proper sized cardboard overshot wad ( from shotgun loading 0.03" thin to seal the gas escape (blow by) from the slightly ?undersized bullets. One could make the proper sized cardboad wad from cuting with the slightly belled 45/70 case as a punch then seat it slightly and let the bullet seat it fully as suggested for the reverse gas check.
Has anyone tried this? See any inherent dangers I am overlooking?
Thanks
