Reloading newbie questions

So with my increase in shooting i want to start to reload at least one of the calibers. 9mm seems cheap enough to buy bulk, but .223 could be a perfect contender.

For now Im thinking to get the Lee 50th Anniversary kit. Progressive would be nicer but being a complete noob id rather start with the basics and upgrade later. Or is a turret press a nice middle ground for a beginner? They arent that much more money.

What do i need in terms of equipment to start loading other than press and dies?




P. S. For you more experienced folks, who wants to make a newbie equipment sticky so these questions arent repeated? :D

powder trickler
chamfering tool
it dosent take much

later you can add a powder measure and a hand priming tool
 
If you're only plinking 223 is not worth reloading in terms of cost savings. By the time you prep and load 1000 rnd you're not saving a lot. Only worth it if you have lots of free time.

Now if you're after precision it's a different story, or if you're doing AR and lots of rounds, then you need a Dillon.

For what it's worth, try to think about this from the other end of the equation.

1) How much do you shoot in a year?
2) How much can you afford to spend on ammo per year?
3) How many years do you expect to be shooting?

Somewhere in the answer to those three questions, you'll find the path you need to take.

Reloading isn't so much about saving money. It's more about making sure you always have access to the ammunition you need, when you need it, at a cost you can afford.
 
As somebody who started reloading primarily for .223... don't.

It's not worth the time. Considering how fast you can blow through it at the range, the time you spend reloading will be ridiculous compared to the pennies you save.
