Reloading order from the US

Hey guys, just going to order an LNL AP press from the US to get the 500 free bullet offer. Just want to confirm that i can order everything from them, then just go across the border and pick it up legally. I was going to buy everything from them except powder, bullets, primers, etc, just all the hardware.
 
I just picked up a big order from sinclair yesterday in N.Y. and brought it home, no problem. I'm not sure about powder and primers, haven't asked or tried...yet. I have brought brass and loaded ammo home with no issues. The Canadian side doesn't care about the ammo, only the US. But since I don't talk to the US on the way home it isn't an issue.

Of course if you do get stopped on the american side, your exporting materials for war and looking at federal time, plus the confinscation of your vehicle. Makes ya wonder if the couple of bucks you save on components is worth it.

I'm pretty sure most do or have done it, but the penalties are very real. The press is fine, but moving ammo or components of any sort is a no no. well, if you get caught..........
 
I called Hornady to ask about the bullet deal. They will have the bullets sent from a distributor here in Canada. I'm suffering from craft right now (can't remember a f******g thing) so I'm not sure where they come from, but you still get the free bullet deal.

Just be careful buying components and ammo in the US. Their BATF is the organization that would be involved and they have NO sense of humor.

Well I guess having been involved in enforcement myself and realizing that it wouldn't be a 'career enhancer' if I were to be involved in any form of illegal activity...I stopped, parked the car and walked into the US Customs border office and asked the question.

The answer from the officer ( supervisor ) on duty was " the onus is on the 'seller' to insure the purchaser is qualified to purchase and possess ammunition". If you have a bill of sale for your purchase then you are not considered libel in any action that could result from your being detained while trying to leave the US at a maned border crossing while in possession of legally obtained ammunition. If you buy ammunition from a private seller then get a bill of sale.

Oh, and we aren't talking about 53' van's full of ammo here are we? I assume private vs commercial. Forget commercial, that requires a separate tractor trailer for the paperwork.

Hmm, I would get that in writing if you can, ideally from the ATF, because the opinion and humor of border agents seems to change like the wind. Don't ask me how I know.
 
To original poster - get your press and all the tools - it's all legit. Not a single issue on either US or Canadian sides.
As far as 'Free bullets' offer - you should get them shipped to your addy. Otherwise, it's darker than grey area...
 
BATF and Homeland Security are not the same organization.The former said it was fine and the latter said under no circumstances.Not on the same page .........Harold

You will need to talk to a US lawyer if stopped by US BATF-LEO who have been known to spot-check Canadian-plated cars.

Foreigners cannot possess loaded ammo, primers and powder on US soil. Reloading equipment is not controlled. FYI, telecopic sights and some gun parts are controlled as well.

If the OP wants to verify, call the US State Department. I did, left a message, they called back and answered my questions clearly and gave me website info.

Better safe than sorry. Not worth ruining your life for a few bucks, sometimes (rarely) it is not even cheaper down south.
 
that's cool, thanks guys.. im not getting any consumables, only loading stuff. i get 500 bullets for buying the press and 100 bullets for buying the new 9mm New Demension die set. here is my order, can you see anything i missed? i am going to order the ABC's of reloading from Amazon.ca. It sucks though as the shellplate for 9mm and the lockout die are backordered, the press is also going up to $429 or something in the New Year. Nice that they offer free shipping and the dollar is damn near par.

Hmm, the last time I was in Maine on a Non-Resident permit, hunting moose, the outfitter and/or the guide didn't seem concerned that I had my own ammo, loaded by myself, declared upon entry into the US..??
Typical I suppose that one gov't agency doesn't talk to the other...
 
I took my own handloads to Montana last fall,declared on my BTAF form.That's not the issue,it's that export to Canada of loaded ammunition,powder,primers and brass amongst other things is prohibited unless covered by a valid export permit.I know guys who have used a valid US hunting licence to purchase ammo in the States but they did not try to bring it back into Canada,as it would be illegal to export it without the permit.I also know several people who have been checked by BATF/Homeland security on the US side of the border and asked if they had firearms or firearms related products.They did not and were allowed to proceed.Spot checks can and do happen. i should still be ok though.. wouldn't buy brass, primers or such down south. Anyone want to comment on my order, suggest anything i need?

Dump the scales, you can get the same one off ebay for 10 bucks. Get the bullet puller. Do you need pistol powder measure? I thought the press comes with one. I have mine LnL sitting in the trunk waiting to be brought to Canada next year :) . Hurry up with your order, Bullet promo is till Jan 31
 
For anyone's information........... this summer they had a dog on the U.S. side of the border when I was coming back.
Upon questioning the ninja about the dog and it's purpose.... the reply was "he checks for gun powder".
Which was explained to me as being loaded ammo and canned powder.
 
i think the bullet promo ends tonight at midnight. i already place the order, and cannot change as i was getting it done for the bullets.. I knew i forgot something, that damn bullet puller.. i will pick that up locally.. too bad about the scale too..
 
If you think you will eventually be reloading for more than just 2 calibers, I would buy more than 3 extra bushings. It seems that every time I add a new shell plate and dies, I can never find anyone with bushings in stock.
 
i think i ordered 2 packs of 3 bushings, i should have ordered the 10 pack. anyone have a nice recipe for the free bullets? looking at ordering the powder and primer next from ammosource or something.. would love to get one powder that will work for 9mm handgun and .223 AR15.
