Reloading powder for 9mm

I am using 4.5gr of 231 with campro 124gr plated projectiles. I seat to 1.125. I dont know the FPS as i do not have a crony. Very comparable to factory loads and one of the best rounds I have made accuracy wise. My 92 is not picky with bullet weight as some guns are.

Why does it seem that so few use Bullseye powder for 9mm? In my very limited experience reloading it seems to work very well.

I use W231 and Titegroup, and i thought titegroup was dirty till i used w231.

4gr titegroup on 124gr zero projectiles or 4.4gr w231 gives me good groups with my sub2k.

I used Blue Dot for 9mm in my SP-01 Tactical and thought it was filthy stuff. I have some loaded now with Titegroup but haven't tried them out yet to see if it's any better.

I couldn't find Titegroup, so I went with 4.3gr W231 in my Shadow, and 2.2 gr in my S&W .38.
Yup, it's dirty.

Reloading Data

First time reloading and was not sure of a good powder to use. I decided to try BULLSEYE and bought it already before buying the projectiles. Unfortunately, I had a hard time finding 9mm bullets (none available at wholesalesports here in Winnipeg), I ended up buying from Cabelas a SPEER 124 gr TMJ RN but my manuals have no data for the two. I searched online and the best recommendation I could find was 4.2 gn of BULLSEYE at 1.035". Any suggestions?

use data for any 124 or 125 gr jacketed bullet, the projectile brand does not really matter.

from lyman 49th:
125gr jacketed HP projectile, 1.075" OAL
Bullseye start grains 3.9, velocity 979 fps
bullseye max grains: 4.5, 1073 fps

BTW I bought 4 lb of bullseye only to find that it is the filthiest powder to use in 9mm, my guns' insides are caked in crud after 100 rounds

To determine the OAL for your gun, take out the barrel and seat the bullet in your press until it chambers freely in the barrel with the case rim flush with the end of the chamber

Thanks LukeS! I will be using it for our NP29s. I have reloaded 10 shells to try out with the data I mentioned. I will just finish my 1lb BULLSEYE and will try Winchester 231 next time.

Alliant uses Speer projectiles -the recipe can be found here:

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipePrint.aspx?page=%2freloaders%2frecipedetail.aspx&gtypeid=1&weight=124&shellid=23&bulletid=26&bdid=31

Remember that Alliant only publishes the minimum load data online - you might want to try an email describing your components and ask for advice. I have used this service in the past and found them quite helpful...

I use what is cheapest and available.

Bullseye, W231, and Accurate No. 2.

I've found Ac#2 is pretty dirty and because it's so small, small amounts of it leak out of my powder charger and get all over the place. Unfortunately, I still have 8 lbs to go through. I would not recommend it personally and will probably go back to W231.
