I like to start reloading some shotgun shells and thinking about ordering a press from the U.S. Any experience good or bad about shipping and handling ? I know shipping is about $60-70 . Any other charge at the border?

Thanks Jozsef

I got all my gear from the states (natchez shooters supplies), I just had to pay the usual taxes on everything, but even after that I still saved almost 300$ :)

Assuming it's made in the US, you'll pay HST if customs tags it. You'll also pay either $5 of $8 in brokerage fees if send by USPS.

Hint: insist on postal service (USPS), not any courier. The couriers - esp. UPS - charge outrageous brokerage.

I know more then enough about UPS.

Thanks Jozsef

I'm not sure which company you're ordering from, but I have looked at Dillon presses (cheaper on ebay) and shipping is around $100 in most cases to Canada. Tree line sports seems to be the best Ebay store for dillon presses that I have found. Dillon website seems a bit more expensive than tree line.

22savage,

I know all the actual ammo components require an export permit that you will likely never be able to get, but I didn't think any of the reloading equipment was controlled.

Certain items are controlled besides weapons though, for instance any IR filter or light or nightvision equipment above Gen 2 I believe all require export permits that you can't get.

hopefully its just there way of covering their behinds, and its not actually restricted.. i think i shall send them an email asking for details

Considering I paid $250 for my Chargemaster from Natchez compared to $500 here in Canada, I do have an issue with buying up here. That is a rip off.

Agreed. When the dollar has been at almost par for so long now, and none of my local shops have dropped their prices, only raised them, I bought all my gear at Natchez and MidSouth. I live near the border, and by using my US Mastercard, and having it delivered in the US, I also save on the international service charge.

As much as I wanted to support my local shops, I honestly could not have afforded to buy all my equipment here, so the local shops only get my money from powder and bullet sales.

and also supported the American economy, CONGRATS

Yeah, I for one absolutely LOVE supporting a Canadian retailer that slaps a huge mark-up on items they import from the States the same as me.:jerkit:

It is even more awesome when they import something from Europe that can cost nearly half as much in America.........and our dollar is nearly on par.

We don't have a very competitive firearm market place in Canada and our shipping distribution system absolutely sucks here.

Hey thanks heavybullet did not think of that I will make it a weekend thing or maybe do it on the black Monday lots of deals at that time

I'd like to support my economy, (me and my family) OK here you go:

Dillon presses are cheapest from Dillon direct
Lee presses are best priced from factorysales.com and natchezss.com

Shipping cost depend on weight, a Lee is around $50 US, Dillon is more like $75 to 80

Yes, you will get charged tax at the border, make sure shipping will be USPS (whoich most do anyway as they know the UPS stories)
