I'm thinking about reloading 9mm Luger, But when I add up the cost of the supplies (casings, bullets etc.) without buying hardware(press & dies) it ends up being more exspensive than buying factory. Am I missing something here??
I am using 500 round count as a number.
Thanks for any input.

Don't buy any new cases. Keep your factory brass after finished shooting. You'll get almost 2,000 rounds +/- out of a pound of powder. So what are they charging you for 500 primers and 500 lead where you live?
How much for a box of factory 9mm?

Casings are problably good for 10-20 reloads, so its not really the cost of every round you load. You should be adding the price of powder, bullet and primer to get a better idea.

on the other hand factory white box is/was going for 9.99 /50- retail, given the price of a press, lead , primers and powder , it costs roughly about the same to roll your own as it does retail- i've got the whole set-up on a progressive and it costs about 8c to roll my own- get the reloaded commercial stuff and it's about 9 c or maybe a little more

Prices

I have been looking around the internet these are approx. prices. Some are for 100 but mutiplied by 5
9mm luger bullets 500rds- 32.45
9mm casings 500rds- 60.99
primers- 20.00
gun powder- approx. 30.00
some of these are american prices so they should be close.
Total for 500rds is $143.44 as compared to S.I.R selling them for 9.99 for box of 50 =$99.99
This is all before taxes & shipping.

That sounds very expensive to me. Here are some actual prices that I pay to reload 9mm; PER 1000

Frontier 9mm plated bullets (Marstar) - $57
Primers (Lebaron) - $21
Powder (Tightgoup $38 per 2 lb, say 4.0 g load = 1,750 loads per lb) - $11
Brass, once fired, say $25/k (but usually free)

Total, including brass = $ 114 per 1000
Total not including brass = $ 89 per 1000

WW Factory white box (LeBaron) $17.18 per 100 = $171.80
WW Winclean 9.99/50 = $200 per 1000

Your milage may vary........

Primer- 2.5c/round
Powder- 1.7c/round
Brass- Nothing, or 100 cases reloaded 10x- 1.5c/round
Bullets are the wildcard, as they go from about 4-5c/round for lead to 15c/round for premium stuff

All in all you're looking at about $0.15-0.20 per round. Factory 9mm is closer to about $0.25.
