Reloading Recipes for .270 Semi's - Need Info

I've just acquired a Remington 7400 and Browning BAR both in 270 caliber. Also got small base die set coming in next few days. Any of you nutters load for either one of these rifles. Info I'm looking for are most accurate bullets - grain, brand, type; from research I've done sounds like a medium burning powder so would like to know what you guys are using, primers - again research says use a primer thats harder metal composition which should prevent any slam fires and OAL for finished cartridges. Any info would be appreciated.

Neither rifle is noted for superb accuracy. I would be surprised (read shocked) if a experienced target shooter could repeatedly make five shot, one inch groups at 100 yards.
Therefore, just get bullets that suit your need, as to plinking, hunting, etc. Any American made bullets will get all the accuracy out of your rifles.

I had a Remington 760 pump in .270 and used a standard RCBS full length die without problem.

A small base die will reduce body diameter "AND" push the shoulder back further than a standard die.

I would start with a standard die and see if a small base die is needed.

On a semi-auto the resized case should be .003 to .005 smaller in diameter than its fired diameter to allow reliable extraction. Meaning the case springs back from the chamber walls after being fired and not stick to the chamber walls

Also dies and chambers vary in diameter and headspace length so nothing is written in stone. And pump actions and semi-autos have larger diameter chambers and a small base die may not be needed.

Just be aware that using a small base die "might" cause case head separations so watch your case diameter and shoulder bump after sizing.

NOTE, I have standard Lee .223 and .308 dies that reduce the case body diameter "MORE" than my RCBS small base dies. So again dies can and do vary in diameter and headspace length.
If you do not have a good vernier caliper and a Hornady cartridge case headspace gauge they both would be a good investment.
