Sadly, I'm in the same position. My Son was so eager when he was a boy, shooting , hunting, fishing, I was excited and bought so many doubles of our favorite firearms. Then along came the girls of which most, if not all, filled his head with anti-hunting, anti-guns, anti most of what he grew up with. Me being the optimist that I am, hold out hope for a turn around. I don't doubt there's quite a few of us in the same boat.
It wasn't just the girls. The intense social engineering he was subjected to in the educational system went a long way towards his present mindset. That and peer pressure because of it are the main culprits.
When my Grandson was being harassed by one of his elementary school teachers, I went to the Principal, whom I had gone to school with and filed a complaint. He was extremely uncomfortable and asked me to make an appointment to speak directly to that particular teacher, in his presence, so that there weren't different reports made. With our permission he made a video record of the meeting.
I was polite and pointed out several occasions where the teacher had made some outrageous political statements and had denigrated the reputations and mental capabilities of the students that were PROUD of their Hunting/Fishing/Shooting opportunities and abilities. I had several signed letters on hand and gave both the Principal and the offending teacher copies.
She was POed that I would DARE to call out a TEACHER. That's when I gave her my opinion of Dope Smoking/Drunken teachers. She was embarrassed by the truth and didn't say much more after that.
The next day, she apologized to the kids she had been hassling in her classroom and didn't make any more negative comments for the year that I found out about.
Word spread pretty quickly through the whole teaching staff there and the whole atmosphere concerning hunting/fishing/shooting changed in that it was no longer NEGATIVE issue.
One thing I've noticed is that teachers are becoming increasingly left wing oriented. They are passing that ideology onto their students, who in many cases, rightfully admire them. This is by no means a recent development and has been going on since the mid thirties. The Communists were considered to be a danger to the Western way of life. In many ways, they were.
The spread of Communism after WWI was one of the main instigators of governments banning/regulating firearms ownership by their plebes. In nations like Great Britain, which had a direct and powerful influence on Canada, the financial/social/upper class elites, who had been riding rough shod over their plebes for centuries, were becoming very concerned for their safety and status within their nations. There were millions of very well trained and capable men that were headed into a contrived DEPRESSION and they were terrified that the hordes would arm themselves and throw the ELITISTS out of their comfortable positions.
That battle is STILL GOING ON.
There are all sorts of history books written on the subject. I do notice that many of them are being made unavailable or they've been surreptitiously modified for TV or Movies.
Time will reveal the results but not likely the TRUTH of how this situation came about in the first place.
Many politicians are/were traumatized by the last attack on Parliament by a lone gunman. They tar us all with the same brush instead of learning from the experience and react emotionally, rather than realistically.
