Well is finally happened I accidentally broke my cheapo Lee safety scale so. Looking for suggestions and or opinions on a good quality balance beam scale.

Looking At
Redding #2
Rcbs 505
Hornady

And other suggestions or opinions appreciated!

How did your scale break? I pulled mine out of the box for the first time in a year and it would not hold zero no matter how much fine tuning i tried. Wondering what your situation was lol

All of the ones mentioned will do the job. I've been using the Lyman 500 for the last 30+ yrs and still works great and easy to zero when needed.

The Lyman 500 is the same machine as the RCBS 5-0-2 iirc. Both are made by Ohaus. They are a two poise system, while the RCBS 5-0-5 is a 3 poise system. They are all good scales of about the same accuracy and quality.

I found a Lyman M5 (Ohaus made) and it works perfectly and accurately. Cosmetically looks ok it's got some wear marks on it. Somewhere ~$40.

For quick measurements, I like my Frankford Arsenal digital scale with my Lyman powder measure.

Thanks for the suggestions guys I think I'm gonna go with the Hornady scale $106 with amazon prime. I knocked the lee scale off my bench to then concrete floor and the arm snapped. I was looking for a new scale anyway but the Lee was working ok for me.

No thanks on the digital, used one for awhile but just drifted way to much and was never consistent. Untrustworthy for my liking!

RCBS 5-0-5 for hunting ammo
RCBC Chargemaster for most accuracy applications
A+D FX 120i when you want to make real precision ammo

Have all three - a very noticeable difference.

The LNL beam scale is no where as good as the Pacific made Hornady scale that has been shown in post 10. I went through several and Hornady finally sent me their LNL electronic bench scale under warranty instead. I have a older RCBS 505 and a very old Ohaus 10-10 both are very good scales. Your money but be aware that many have had the same issues as I had with the LNL beam scale.

I've found that if you have an air vent or even a fluorescent light nearby, the beam scales tend to get a little squirly. Try it in another location to see if it improves.

A good beam scale is definitely sensitive to air currents, I often close my window temporarily when I weight a charge. Once the powder throw is adjusted, I re-crack the window open. :)

Been using an Ohaus 5-0-5 same as RCBS for many years. Price tag on the box is $29.95, bought the early 70's. It will stay on the bench with a chargemaster till i'm gone.
