reloading shotgun shells

Hi I shoot trap and if you cannot afford new reloading is the only way to go.
I too have a PW with most of the toys on it but no drive. 300-450 per hour is not bad.
My cost right now is 3.65 but will go up this year as we will have to make a buy on components this year and some prices will be up. However the buy will be shipped with a load of targets.
However I do not believe it will reflect more than a .65-.90 cent increase.
I also believe my reloads are as good or better than any store bought.

do you buy your hulls separate? or do you reuse hulls that were left on the range? for me, that's the big thing. i'm not so worried about the other components as i am about access to hulls for cheap to nothing.

Where I shoot we have some very nice fellows who leave their AA hulls on the ground even though the club asks shooters not to. I'm not shy about dumpster diving for Winchester AA, Remington STS or Federal Gold Medal hulls if permitted by the club.

I rarely buy hulls but will make an exception for the old style AA hulls if once-fired. More often I buy premium factory shells, shoot them then use the hulls.

Hull longevity varies depending on the load. I generally load Winchester AA 7 to 8 times throwing them away when splits start to show in sides of the hull. In 12 gauge, Remington STS seem to be the most durable hull, with Federal Gold Medal plastic not far behind but I load Winchester AA because I have a good supply. When they run out I'll probably switch to Federal. For 28 gauge I load Wincehster AAHS exclusively after a very bad experience with Federal Gold Medal.

Go to any ATA or PTA shoot and talk to shoot management I am sure you may leave the site with bumper dragging on the ground.
I load AA, STS, Winchester Super Target, and Remington Gun Club.
I use the same load for all which is a 7/8oz
Empty hull are free for the most part.

If you have a club near by talk to the guys and look at the board for a used press. Like it's been said a mec 600 will last forever, and Pacific DL-155 or 266 and a Ponsness Warren single stage could also get you started inexpensively. Rem Gun Clubs by the flat are probably the cheapest way to get the best hull for the money. You will not save any money, but you be able to shoot more, that's the advantage.

Get a Lymans manual (older ones as well 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) and be aware of loads you can use so if a bunch of older components come along you can buy them for a song, and avoid stuff that can't be used easily. I've got a bunch of older powder, wads, and primers that work just fine from a going out of business sale for about $5/Lb, and $10/1000 for wads and primers.
