Is anyone else having trouble finding reloading supplies in Calgary or their home town? I'm not necessarily talking about components but presses, dies, case prep tools, hand primers?

I went to WSS and The Shooting Edge a few times this past month and they both said they are waiting on shipments. In particular I was looking for a Lyman Tumbler, Lee Classic Turret Press, Lee Deluxe Dies, RCBS hand primer etc etc (I am upgrading my current reload setup).

I ended up ordering everything off the internet instead of supporting local business but it is hard to support them when they have nothing to buy.

I am still looking for a RCBS Universal Hand Primer FYI.

WSS has more empty shelves than full ones. Makes shopping online a very good alternative when local shops feel a need to keep their inventory down. I've been looking for weeks for some reloading die replacement parts for RCBS. Just about time to look online...

As for components, buy bulk, buy them well ahead of time, and keep them stocked up. Waiting weeks for powders and bullets is not acceptable.

Exactly!

WSS in Calgary hasn't had anything "in stock" for as long as I can remember. I am sick of hearing that it will be in the next shipment . They never know when the next shipment is arriving and from what I have seen lately it never really shows up...

Call Ted at Marksman Guns and Sports in Lethbridge. They carry RCBS replacement parts in stock and if they don't have it they can get it.

I don't understand how WSS can stay in business...mail order is the same...everything is out of stock..when you go to a store the shelves are empty. I guess they must sell a lot of fishing and camping stuff.

I have the RCBS Universal Hand Primer.......I got it at P&D in Edmonton. I think it is a great hand priming tool. I actually got 2 of them......1 for small and 1 for large rifle primers. Saves you the grief of having to switch it from LR to SR and then vise-versa.

90% of my reloading stuff is from the USA. I went thru the same as you 1 year ago and ended up getting my stuff from Sinclair International (single stage press, powder thrower, tumbler, electronic scale, dies, shell holders, case trimmer & RCBS case prep station). I've also gotten some "odd-an-ends" from the USA off Ebay, such as reloading trays, Lee case trimmers, case lube pads, ammo boxes and reloading data books.

The Shooting Edge sucks for reloading equipment. They are more concerned about operating the indoor range and selling scary looking shotguns that would make iggy wet his pants.

NoSale Sports is a lost cause. The only person who would like shopping there is iggy.
Talking on this forum about how pathetic NoSale Sports is = d:h:

One of my favorite shops stocks little in tools because they say no one buys it. When they do take an order it takes forever, and the prices are higher than US. Sometimes they even forget to order it from their Canadian dist. who orders from a US dist.

Another shop keeps a lot of stock, and orders are quick, even if they are more $ than US. They seem to move the bulk of reloading tools in this area.

Most of my purchases come from our sponsors now.I have lost most of my confidence in some of the local guys and WSS.

At the very least they CAN tell you when they will be getting something as well as being extremely knowledgeable and they do have most things that a consumer wants in the first place.

Support our sponsors.

This is pretty simple guys. When somebody has stuff in stock for a reasonable price, buy more than you need. The next time, buy more of something than you need. Hell...buy something you don't need. I just bought another 1000 primers.....I need more primers like I need a hole in the head, BUT, when the next b.s. artificial shortage comes around again...and it WILL come around again, I'm not going by a place 3 times to eventually get one box for nearly double the price.

Buying on demand means you're eventually going to be out of luck/no stock, or, you're going to get hosed on prices. If everyone did this, when the manufacturers jack prices up another 30 or 40 or more percent we could just leave the stuff on the self until they come back to their senses. If you guys keep paying their asking price everytime they jack things up, things will never stop going up.

Blacksmith,

its a pity we can't follow your advice with petrol. I can't currently think of a bigger, supposedly legal, scam. And its been going on for decades.

it's ALL about quantity- when russel's was bought out and closed by wsl, i bought a couple of BUCKETS of 44 lswcs b/c i knew cactus plains supply was going to be sketchy- something russels handled that wsl didn't- i also got a couple of sleeves of primers and a half- carboy of powder( 4 pounds) - i couldn't get 8 at the time , which the usual way i buy it- so i figure i've got enough for a couple of YEARS

Don't blame the guys at WSS. UFA bought them out, views them as a cash cow and totally messed up a good system. Purchasing, which used to be done by them, is now done by drones in UFA HQ and bills are months late getting paid.

Send a nastygram to UFA.

They were idiots before and I went to Russel's instead...............now stuck with WSS.............
