I've used RL19 in the 7mm for years now because I have found it to usually be consistently accurate. I find the FPS is slower than I like though :(

With my new 7mm I just got I am finding with a 140gr bullet I am still in that 3000FPS all the way up to 67grs?

It is A Sako contour Ted Gaillard 1-9 twist 24 1/4" barrel.

What are pet loads & speeds & out of the following powders I have in my cabinet which would be best to try?

I was hoping I'd be in the 3100-3200 FPS range with decent accuracy. RL19 is looking like it won't cut it though.

Here is what I have for powder

RL25, RL22, RL19, H4831SC, IMR7828SC, IMR4831, IMR4350,

CCI 250's or 215F are what I have for primers. So far I have not found any real noticeable FPS difference between the two?

I'm sure one of those powders would work, but being I am running very close to hunting season & have limited range time I need a good starting point. Fine tuning will have to happen next year I guess.

Thanks.

140gr Nosler BT. Old stock from my father. It's what he likes to shoot. The old guy is too stubborn to change. Mind you a Nosler BT is a good deer bullet. He's killed a lot of deer with tha bullet, so I can't argue with him ;)

64 Grains of RL 22 Behind a 140gr. Nosler Ballistic tip has put me at 3100-3200fps with a 26" barrel. Very Acurate. 58 Grains of IMR 4831 behind a 160gr. Speer Grand Slam gives me another very Acurrate load but substansially slower at around 2700 fps. For me Accuracy is Key.

I use 62 grains of IMR 4350 with a 140 grain accubond. I have chrony'd tons of them and average is just under 3100 fps. This is my #1 deer load and I am shooting a Tikka 685 Deluxe.

Well a 7mm Rem Mag will do 3350 FPS!

Well well well. I was blown away today :)

I switched from RL19 to RL22 & my eyes were opened ;)

First of the range conditions SUCKED! The wind was terrible, but I have today & next Friday to finalize everything, so it was now or never.

I loaded 15 shells starting at a 5 count 68gr RL22, the 69gr & lastly 70gr.

The barrel was freshly cleaned, so I had one RL19 load left from last trip which I used. 3093 FPS I will mention also :)

I started with the 68gr RL22 load. First shot 3385 FPS  # 2 shot was 3414 FPS  Those are the 2 shots to the right. After 3 fouler's it seemed to settle a bit. The 3rd shot was the lower one by itself & was 3349 FPS, then the last 2 in the cluster were each 3347 FPS. I can live with that.

No visible pressure signs with 68gr RL22. I stopped there. That is lots fast enough. I brought the other shells home & will pull the bullets. I may drop down a gr & see if the accuracy stays there.

I am now a believer that a 24" 1-9 twist 7mm Rem Mag will push a 140gr over 3300 FPS.

I think my Dad will be happy :) It puts my 26" 264 Win Mag to shame so far. 3100 FPS is where it is at with a 140gr in that rig so far.

a 7 Mag when properly loaded will certainly push a 140 upwards of 3300.

Glad to see you got some speed out of the Sako.

I was out at the range today too.....my 24" 700 factory barrel in 7mm Rem Mag doesn't like Rel19 either...no speed...averages about 3000 with a 140 and 65.5 grs....now H4350 is a bit better..66 grs went an average of 3222 for three shots.......a friend gets 3340 with 67grs of H4350 in a 26" barrel.

Now, the 26" STW is a real speedster...140 TTSX's and 81grs of Rel22 went 3488,3521,3465 and 3487.....the 140 TSX's went 3423,3419 and 3476...160 Accubonds with 80grs of Rel 25 went an average of 3165..and they shoot the best.

and for the real speed freaks among us......the little Sako .17 Remmy went to a high of 4093:eek: with a 20gr VMax and 19grs of IMR4198....

I understand that the new Speer manual lists US869 with a 140gr for the "264 Win Mag" which I have also. If someone with that manual could post that data I appreciate it.

Also if there is Retumbo data for the same grain bullet in that manual you could post that too.

No idea what the manual says, I tried US869 in a 264 pushing 140's and I was disapointed in the speed. Couldn't get the speed I got with H-870 ! And I thought they were supposed to almost the same as far as burn rate. Might be worth testing again with your gun and chrony.

I had worked up to 78 grains but that was a Remington Core lokts . Outside temperature was just above 0 C.

A for Rl-22 and the big 7's . I had good luck in my STW . Pushed 139's all the way 3600 (82 gr.) This is just a workup so I cant comment on group sizes yet.

I will be testing the Barnes TSX next because the Hornady BTSP's could not handle the speed (as expected) some were not even making it to the target ? I also think that 81 gr. is more sane, I was getting an avg 3550 fps which was factory 140's were giving me .
