Reloading woes <solved>

Problem solved. It appears that both the Redding Series A and RCBS dies are problematic. They appear to work the case mouth on straight wall cases in a way that causes flaking (at least on .44spl cases).

The sizing ring on the CH die is a 1/2" deep and sizes to 0.447. After that, it opens up into a rough cylinder up to the threading. The Redding and RCBS dies also size to the same 0.447. I just sized 100+ pieces of the same Win .44spl brass from the same lot with no flaking and no scratches with the CH die.

My 9mm Redding titanium carbide sizing die also has a 1/2" sizing sleeve, so I have to assume this is a good design. I have to conclude that a single sizing ring design is superior to the traditional cylinder design for straight walled cases. I guess I have a few die sets to sell/repurchase, but first I need to load at least one round to completion.

After years of research, equipment hoarding and component collecting - I have finally loaded my first rounds!

5.5gr of Red Dot, 44spl (Win and Remington brass), Campro 240gr plated (roll crimped into cannelure).

Funny story. I ordered another pistol rotor for my standalone Hornady powder measure from a local dealer and yup - defective. The newbie machined the hole for metering assembly right in the middle of the rotor vs. offset to the right a little (~0.026). As a result, the measure did not operate as the frame of the measure was in tight contact with the metering assembly on the left. I called Hornady support and send some pictures comparing the specs to the one that came with my case activated powder drop. I guess this was a known defect and I received an email shortly after my phone call and they are sending me out a brand new part (050128). That's what I call service!

And yes - I ultrasonic cleaned the brass, then tumbled it for a few hours in walnut (nice and pretty). Primer pockets are sparkling and everything will be done in a single stage press for now with each charged weighed.
