reloads do not fit the chamber

I have done some reloads from once fired brass. Went to try it in my rifle and i cant close the bolt on about 80% of the reloads.
I checked them and can not see the difference in measurements. Cases have been trimmed, dies are brand new. i did have some difficulty resizing but once lubed they went ok. I did not do factory crimp on them and they are FC cases
So what is the problem? They all work fine in my norc M14...and remington 700 will not.
 
When you say a "lee set" are you refering to the Lee Loader that you use with a mallet and not a press?

If this is the case the sizing die will only partially size the case if I recall correctly... If some of your cases have been fired in a different rifle with a slightly oversize chamber the die you are using will not reduce them enough to chamber in a gun with a normal chamber....
 
I've owned two Remington M700s 300WSMs and, according to measurements using my RCBS precision MIC and twice fired brass, the chambers of both were slightly under the SAAMI Mininum (-0.001" and -0.0015"). I found it difficult to impossible to chamber Federal rounds - reason I discovered, again using my MIC, was that the Federal rounds were right the the SAAMI mininum headspace for the .300 WSM (i.e., .001" and .0015" too long for my chambers).

anther explaination. Try chambering resized brass - if it does not chamber, it is a resizing die issue (i.e., not setting the shoulder back far enough). If it chambers, then the issue is with bullet seating. I had this experience. Resized brass would chamber, but after seating a bullet, it would not chamber. I thought my die was set up to not to crimp - apparently, it was by an imperciptible amount. Solution (and something you many need to try) - back the seating die out a half a turn and then compensate by adjusting the bullet seating stem.

The dies should be able to screw in and out of the press and capable of fine adjustment. There should be a "lock nut" of some kind?

Had the same problem with 223 It worked fine in my AR but not in the Rem 700. The guys are right Wind the resize die down so it his the shell holder. Move it down and try the case then move it some more.

sad to hear this....too bad for my m700. the way this adjusts is to touch the shell holder so i do not think i can adjust this, i will try now...though
anyone else can give me ideas?
 
I owned a Lee press for years. Do you have the instructions that came with (more specifically the Lee DIES)?
I might still have mine somewhere...I'll dig around.

Bottom line...the die is 'adjustable' by way of how deep you screw it in the press. The resizes (full length or Neck sizers) needed to be screwed in...as I recall a half turn IN ( maybe it was 1 full turn) after it touches the base at full stroke. That allows for proper pressure to resize when the handle is lowered on brass.

you gotta push down harder...just don't hang off of it or you'll break the cast metal cam where the handle goes into. I got about 15 years of reloads out of mine till it broke.

A set of Small Base Dies may work. Re-read the instructions, there should be a little "cam over" as the ram reaches the top of it's stroke.

You might just need to separate brass by gun, which is a good idea anyway. Then work up an accuracy load for each rifle.
 
ok wait...lube the crap out of the case then i run the case through the sizer 5-6 times now it fits perfect.

Something is still wrong, one pass is normal. 5-6 passes should not be needed, or really do anything more.
