Does anyone use lead reloads in the Springfield XD :nest:

I emailed Springfield about lead reloads in a XD-M they said No Don't. from a legal stand point I would expect that.. But will the gun handle it? or is the barrel like a glock barrel with pressure build up?

Hi there..

I have an XD-9 and have shot reloads and alot of lead bullets over the past year ( over 5000 rounds) ... No problems at all... it is as accurate as can be expected and cycles well. I shoot 147 grain lead RN as well as Hornady 124 gr HP XTP. Both shoot well. I think the only thing you may need to worry about is the manufacturers warranty. Some state that if you shoot reloads in your gun it voids your warranty. Which i think is a load of B*****IT. In my opinion... reloads are superiour to factory anyday!!!! You must be very careful with the powder weight as well and the COL and you have superior reproducibility. Plus reloads are about 1/3 the cost of factory ammo.

Even though they all say reloads void your warranty, I've seen a lot of stories of folk still getting covered for non ammo related defects (thankfully I've been lucky so far). Which is as it should be, of course. A defective part won't be made more defective because you loaded for the gun, so it should still be covered. But if you double charged a case and blew the gun up, that's beyond their control, so sucks to be you.

I have an xd 40 that i shhot only reloads out of.

180 grn projectiles with either 4.7 or 4.3 grn of tight group behind them.

The only thing I found was you have to FULLY resize the brass, esp range pickups.

I had to change the setting on my resizer so it sits barly off teh shell plate.

Other than that flawless.

XD's can handle even fairly hot reloads. I dropped them down to mid-loads after some load development in them but still shoot only reloads in them (cost factor). My XD9 even doubles as my IPSC production gun, so shoot away with no worries.

Just don't let Springfield know if you need a warranty repair.
