I'm working on a project and my ability to work on metal is limited so I'd like to keep it simple. My question is: What is the best way to move a trigger rearwards on a rifle?
The best I have come up with is drilling a hole through the top of the original trigger and then link it to a hole drilled in another trigger, which had been mounted further back on the receiver. I'd think that the movement of the triggers at the same point on each would be identical and the links would pivot within the drilled holes so it would operate smoothly. After that I'd grind off most of the original trigger and enclose it to protect the mechanism.

Attach A to B using a piece of steel rod or something similar.

For my project the location of the action "as is" in the stock is essential, the only thing that has to be changed is the location of the trigger. Currently the trigger is located fairly close to the center of the action and I'd like it to be at the rear.

It wouldn't be just the trigger. The entire trigger group would have to be moved. It'd be much easier to cut the stock to fit you.

The method which I described in my first post wouldn't require moving the entire trigger group. Both triggers would be of the exact same dimensions and pivot at the same point on the trigger (albeit different points of the action), so I believe that the movement experienced by one trigger at a specific point (the site at which the rod attaches) would be identical to that experienced by the other trigger.

I'd like to hear more about you mod oldstarfire. I'm especially interested in how you linked the trigger sections together. I'm unsure of the best way to have each end of the linkage pivot freely inside the holes that I've drilled without having them work their way out sideways. I was thinking of locking two nuts against one another and securing them with blue loc-tite... But that would require threading each end of the linkage after I found a piece of metal that was the right length for the application a diameter for the nuts. Help?!

Check out how this was done on some of the earlier bulpup rifles or the Xp-100 type pistols that had their triggers well back of the action.
