For those who know this model...

My father owns one. it has 2 barrells... both chambered in 2¾.

I want take my dad out turkey hunting this spring... and although a 2¾ shell can get a gobbler... I'd feel better if he were using a 3''.

Question is : Can someone , while switching barrells, also switch chamber size ?

If no... why ?

Thanks

Yann

From what I remember the 1100 12ga 3" receiver contains heavier internal parts so he will need a magnum receiver plus a barrel chambered for 3". He will kill a turkey however with a 2 3/4 in a full choke no problem.;)

The ejection port is probably not long enough to let a fired #' shell eject and also the ejector is not properly located to eject 3". IMHO

Couple of the guys i hunt with during turkey season run that exact gun and have no issues with downing birds, as long as its patterned your good to go.

Let's put it this way. In the past, I've had to dispatch wounded Canadas on the ground. At 25 yards or so, 2-3/4" shells with #2 lead or steel and a Full choke is a deadly head shot. Remember, you can use lead on turkey.

And its a Semi, so really if one 2 3/4" shell didn't finish the bird then the second shell its milliseconds behind the first one.

A guy a work shot his turkey last year with and old crappy stevens sxs in 2 3/4 with plain jane mod/full chokes at 30 yards.

Tell him just to practice with his gun and the shells he will be shooting so he knows where his point of aim should be.

Thanks to all of you. For both for the "mechanical" education and the encouragement that the gun would do fine IF homework is done ( and I do my homework ;) )

There is nothing like understanding why/how things work (or won't) !

Dad can't take a full day upland hunt anymore (his back). Even the ½days are hard due to the terrain and all.... but I guess calling up a turkey, with good scouting and all, would keep him in the sport a while longer.
