I thought I'd share with some of the new people one example of an F/TR rifle I just put together and for all you Savage lovers. ;)
I may not get my 6.5 barrels in time for Victoria Day Match in Connaught, so I at least my F/TR gun will be ready.

1969 Vintage 40X that I bought back in the late 80's off a Fullbore shooter. Original wood stock that I pillar bedded, trued up the action [it didn't need much] modded the butt for F-Class, machined a stainless steel bolt knob and installed a used 29" McLennan Palma Med weight .298/.3075 1-13" twist barrel with at least 2,000rds through it. Total weight of gun with modified Harris bipod 14.5lbs. 40X trigger tuned down to 8oz. Some of it turned plum.

I used a PT&G reamer, Palma chamber designed for the newest Palma bullets out. I've yet to test the Berger/Sierra offering, but things look very promising with 154gr Lapua Scenars.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I have a case of Hirtenberger 7.62 surplus ammo. I found the brass to weight around 167 -168grs, but have not done H20 capacity measures yet. This brass is well made and has a small flash hole with LR primer. I found a sweet spot with 45.5grs of Varget and moly coated Lapua 154grs. I think this brass might have potential.

I had to drill a gas hole in the normal place as it never came with one from the factory. I feel more comfortable with that as I'm working pressures up and if things do get hot they have somewhere else to go than backwards.

Well it shoots! Things were 50F today and very windy and I did get caught in a few shots. Here's 3 groups 5 shots each of .234, .286 & .482 @ 100yds. with my Mark4 TMR 8.5x25.
Safe to say it will shoot in the .2's.

Very nice looking rig in a classic kind of way. You have a gem of an action AND trigger. Back when Rem's were so well made.

nice install job and that barrel still shoots.

have a great season and let us know how the Berger/Sierra's work out for you.

What are the rings/bases and how do you like the scope? Do you see much of an advantage with the TMR reticle over the Mildot?

TPS rings and TPS 20MOA base. The TMR has a finer reticle and hash marks instead of big dots which work much better for me in F-Class wind holdover from my own experience. There is also a very small aperture hole in the center instead of a standard cross or dot. At first it seemed different, but now I've come to like it. For long range it doesn't cover up the target center or prairie dog. Even at 100yds the hole fit nicely inside the smallest 100yd BR target ring. If a bullet does get inside it I can still see exact center.
 
I'm sure the groups would improve in my Hart pedestal and of course a solid concrete benchrest. The wobbly wooden benchrest and Hoppes pedestal gives me more of a challenge to get the shot just right. ;)

Well those are excellent groups especially given your handicap of rifle support. I've recently acquired an old single shot 40X that I'm looking forward to playing with. Mine is not blueprinted like yours is though.
 
Truth is I only needed to remove .001 off the receiver face to square it up. That's it!
When I put this action in the mandrel/spider it is the straightest Rem 700/40X I've seen. Mind you I don't have 40 yrs experience smithing, but I know when it's straight. They even mark the recoil lug and tell you which is front. Bolt lug and recesses mate 100%, threads cut square and bolt cycles smooth as silk. There was definately more QC back in the Walker days.
