Hello all,
I'm thinking of getting a semiauto .22, and I've been leaning towards the Rem 597 package [scope inlcuded]. I'm not the type to spend a bunch of money and time customizing the thing, and I've heard out of the box accuracy is topt notch, so that's why I'm thinking 597 and not 10/22. The 597 is less money too. So I've read online that the jamming problems have been addressed and pretty well solved with new generations of magazines and extractors, soI'm not really worried about it being prone to jamming. The reports that have me a little concerned are about the trigger. Apparently the triggers are very heavy, and so it is a MUST to get a volquartsen hammer, and by doing so the trigger lessens to <3lbs. So if I knew where I could get one here in Canada, then I'd just go out and buy the 597. But before I do I want to know I can get the Vol. Hammer. So, what is everyone's thoughts on the 597, and do any of you know where to get the after-market part?

Thanks

Jamming can be fixed by altering the spring guides. As for upgrading the only 2 thing you will need is the hammer & extractor and that is less than $60 CAD shipped to your door from http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv

I have a 597 and installed the Volquartsen hammer. The trigger pull was not heavy before (about 5 lbs), and is now about 3 1/2 lbs. I imagine that rumour was from a 10/22 fan.

just did the hammer and extractor on my 597 vtr, fantastic upgrades, 0 jamming issues, and a nice light trigger (the factory one is not bad at all) all for under 60 bucks
