Rem 597 rubber recoil buffer removal??

As the title says, I'm wondering how to remove this rubber chunk, so I can clean from the back. Tried to wiggle it from the inside, and no go, as well as light taps from the outside. For something so simple, what am I missing ?? Not enough coffee??

pop all the pins and pull the whole animal apart. I didn't think you could then a friend showed me. Just use a little punch and they come apart quick. next thing you know you have the action in one hand and the barrel in another. assembly is simple. fix my FTE problems, really quick.

Strong coffee = oil pressure up top....just a stubborn plug, thats all
