Rem 597 VTR problem

My 597 hates any winchester ammo, I think it has to do with the "W" on the head. I have the exact same result, every few shots it fails to fire.

I shoot federal bulk packs with good accuracy and complete reliability.

+1 on the Federal bulk packs and CCI stingers. Anything else is hit and miss in my 597.

Update:
Just got a chance to fire the VTR again.
This is after thoroughly cleaning and lubing it, and shooting in warmer temperature. I was shooting CCI ammo, and it was unstoppable. Not a single problem.

Your problem could very well related to the Dynapoints. I've seen a number of posts on rimfire and other sites that indicate a desired velocity of 1200 fps minimum for the 597 to function properly. Apparently its a little fussy about it's food. ;-) Winchester own website indicates that a Dynapoint has a velocity of 1150 fps. Try some faster rounds.
