Rem 597 VTR.........

The bolt handle for my VTR keeps falling out, been lucky so far, and have been able to find it with my magnetic magic wand. It's just a press fit into a slot in the bolt. Any ideas to prevent it from escaping? Know where to order spares? One of these days I won't be so lucky........

there was a user named johnnyc14 i am pretty sure. he made upgraded ones. though I have removed my two a couple of times, i truly never thought of its manner of securement. purely love my pair of 597's. i hope your issue gets sorted.

Use a small flat screwdriver to bend the retaining clip up a little bit

Thanks for the replies. I was able to contact, and order from John C. from Alberta who does make oversized handles to fix this problem. In the meantime I'm using Leuchtkafer's fix to hold the old handle in place.

Glad I came across this post as I had inquired with John C. over a year ago and supposed to contact me when he had them made but didn’t hear back Just checked in with him again.
