Rem 600 338 Fed build final complete

Are you building a 358 win? What action?

I was debating between 338 and 358 for this build.
I sent a 700 action and Brown Precision stock to KS Arms for a new bbl. Nothing strange. Just a 22" bbl 1:12" twist in factory sporter contour.

I don't think the 358 is better than the 338, but I have more history with the 358caliber and the kit was on hand for the loading. In reality, I don't think either has much to offer over a 308 load with good bullets. Gun loonyism is a sickness without regard to practical realities. :)

Enjoy your rifle. It's a nice one.

That’s a light gun, I’m sure you can feel it.
Shot my 338 for the first time Sunday and felt the recoil was stout but manageable.
One thing I have learned over the years is that a lightweight rifle that offers a bit of recoil will benefit from having the forend held on the bench. This will mitigate some of the barrel torquing skyward and help with accuracy.

This is the BEST shooting Factory load I have ever shot in my Tikka 338 Fed is this one .
Not only does it achieve 2700 fps it will group 3 into 3/4 “ consistently
Bonded bullet too ! My Tikka SS Lite weights 6-15 oz ready to shoot with a Vx3 2.5-8 Leo on it and its pretty barky with the 200 grers .👍

Sounds fun, hope it turns out the way you want it to.

I agree but where is the fun in just another 308

As some of you requested here is my Rem 600 338 Federal build, done in time for moose hunt
20” Douglas barrel in 338 Federal
Custom claro walnut stock with added grip cap, end cap, checkered, bedded and free floating
Timney trigger, Aluminum trigger guard
Older gloss Leupold VX3 2.5x8
Leupold duel dovetail base and rings
Cerakote finish

Started with me as an online purchase that was very poorly described by seller, well overpaid. Wouldn’t chamber a round, bent bolt handle, butchered up stock, broken safety lever and some kind of rattle can finish

Going to be my moose gun, where we hunt lots of bush and cover with shot being under 300y or less. Probably under 150y
Now to get it out shooting and sight in the scope. Figure out what it likes.
There is so much to like on this build.. the lumber, the overall weight, the caliber. So much “win”…. Although I probably would have deviated a bit on the palm swell but I get it. Great build and congrats on the assembled weight. That is an achievement
