Recently inherited a nice older mohawk in .222 rem the rifle shows excellent accuracy potential with factory ammo only problem is the cheap stock they came with is in rough shape and seems very soft from the little bit of inletting I did to install a Timney trigger. Has anyone done any sort of pillar bedding on these stocks? The rear tang just rests on the back of the stock and there is a small screw that goes through the trigger guard and the wood at the bottom isn't thick at all so I have just been lightly tightening the rear action screw and snugging down the front. Im tossing around the idea of ordering a Boyds stock with pre installed pillars to remedy this.

How does it shoot? They tend to be very accurate. It could be bedded if you choose to do so. A lot cheaper than a new stock. You might also consider a metal trigger guard to replace the flimsy plastic one.

Shoots great 3/4 moa with factory 55 g sp ammo I did purchase a nice steel trigger guard. I have dies coming maybe just a bit of glass around the recoil lug area and free floated barrel would be best option for starters. This particular rifle has a fairly stout barrel for a sporter .222 feels in between #3-#4

OP,
If you install a pillar for the aft action screw-
The face/forward surface of the pillar will require facing/milling to allow clearance for safety operation.

Good Day: I have 2 rem 660's one in .222 and the other in .243.
the one in .222 has a metal trigger guard from numrich, the other has an aluminum trigger guard from cvmw in the usa.
they both do the job, but the aluminum one is quite nice and light.

thanks Jeff

ordered the numrich one, thanks for your help
once it gets in will be getting it fitted and bedded

Beautiful rifle Hyllar!......:)

I love the cap, the color and the inletting darkening. I've had many Remington 600's and 660's over the last 45 years, they were all absolute tack drivers.

I recently had my gunsmith build a custom stainless Model 660 in 221 Fireball, it shot 1/4" groups. Unfortunately I made the mistake of selling it, but it went to a great fellow.

Numrich is relatively east to buy parts from. The CBSA gun parts jail in Mississauga is a ##### though, my parts sat there for 90 days.

Indeed it is! LOL

Is your stock a Boyd Boys model? It sure is beautiful. If yes, was it expensive with the ad on's? The fore-end cap, fleur-de-lis checkering and blonde stock look so very nice.

it is a boyds, it was not cheap
I like the hertiage model, and the upgrades do pile up, but it dos make for a very nice end product
I think it might have been $500 USD, plus exchange and then $100 duty, so getting close to a thousand by the time it is bedded

Ouch, that sure was pricey! But it's so beautiful!

I think it is the nicest Remington Model 600 I have ever seen.

Congrats to you my friend!......:)
I was looking at my credit card bill for something else, but saw the boyds charge was $850CDN, plus hte $100 duty

it is hte higher grade of maple, with an upgraded butt pad, engraving, forend and grip cap
