So I’ve been looking for a new .223 bolt gun and I pretty much had it nailed down , as there’s a nice model 7 predator with a Nikon scope , local , listed for $800.

But today at my local gun store I spotted a Remington 700,Heavy barrel chambered in .204. $780 BNIB

I know the ballistics for both and either will suit my needs.

for the model 7 I have all components, plus it has a useable scope.

Model 700 ,I have no brass or no scope.

Model 700 has more aftermarket support.

So I guess my question is , is the Rem 700 , 204 the better deal?

Thanks

Everyone needs a heavy barrel varmint gun. The 204 looks like it’s priced to sell. Depending on the stock ( laminate or HS precision) it could be a steal of a deal. A small bolt face Remington action is worth 6-700$ if you can find one. Stainless? Even better but not a deal breaker to me. Grab it!

Don’t buy a heavy barrel for carry around varmint hunting. That will get old real fast. I’ve been to that show. I’d take the model 7 as described all day long.

I’ve lived here , on the outskirts of town for 20 years .
Moose hunting almost every year and I’ve yet to see a coyote.

This will never be used for hunting.Target shooting at the range and an occasional walk out back with my son will be the only use.
Also ,I like to tinker around with the rifle, changing parts, testing loaded rounds an such.

The Rem 204 seems like a good option,as all I need is some brass, so why not.

What do you guys think about shortening the barrel?
It’s 26 now.
I was thinking 20 or 21.

Bad Idea?

Sorry to hijack this thread but it's only my second post so I can't start my own thread.

I won a 700 PCR .223 in a raffle, what's that gun worth? It's in new condition, I don't have it yet but I don't think it's been used much or ever possibly.

I sold my 204 for 6 or 7 hundred , far as I can remember.
I’d say the PCR might be worth 8 or 9 hundred??

I guess that's what it's worth 800 - 1000, depending if it's used or not and if there's a buyer looking for that exact one! Thanks 45C

I have a Rem 700 VLS in .204 Ruger that I rebarreled to a faster twist 1 in 10. Very heavy rifle, but it shoots very, very well.
