Rem 700 .223 16.5

You need to supply more info than that, IE intend purpose ( target, hunting, both etc.). Also what is your budget?

I dropped mine into an HS stock and topped it with a Mark 4 10X. Mine is for both target plinking and coyotes. The 10X is a bit much when they show up close. Might change over to a VX2 6-18.

It will be for targets, and maybe the odd coyote.

I'd like to keep the scope at around the $400 range.

I just put a Leica on my .280 so my scope fund is on the low side.

If you can find a Nikon Buckmaster in 6-18x or slightly less magnification, I highly recommend them. You might also be able to find a used Zeiss Conquest in 3-9x or 4-12x. The Zeiss scopes have very good glass. Not sure if you prefer any particular holdover/ranging reticles for coyote but this will add cost.

My vote goes to the Nikon coyote active target special, can be had for right around your price range and also has BDC reticle and the ability to use the Nikon spot on app which will calculate your different hold overs for the different types on ammunition. I should also add that I have it mounted on the exact same rifle that you have mentioned. I hope this helps
