Your coming up on what most would consider the service life a precision 308 barrel(10,000rds). Time to get a new barrel spun up on her IMO, you got your moneys worth out of that one. Just curious, whats your accuracy like? Thats about twice as many rounds as I have ever put through a 308.
I'm guessing your either neck sizing and just bumping shoulders with a body die when needed or your FL sizing with a die set up to just barely bump shoulders so your "excessive" head space doesn't really matter as long as you keep using your fired formed brass so it's a non issue. If your happy with the accuracy carry on with what your doing but I would get a blank ordered up on the ready.
That's a pretty soft load, I would bet you will get 30+ reloads from your brass. I was loading 44.0 grs behind 175/178s and got 27-30 reloads before I started getting case separation.

I was hoping you would comment on that, the brass still looks great and was going to keep going with them...thx Jay
I use this rifle as a gong plinker 500, 600 and 900. Have been very happy with this rifle out of the box.

Keep a close eye in front of the web for hairline cracks, that will be the first indications. When you start to see this its been my experience that's it's best to cull the whole lot. I usually keep some of the better looking ones and use them for times you might lose the brass. Cheers.
You are confusing headspace with throat erosion. There is no reason headspace should change over the life of the bbl. Headspace should not wear with use.
As you reload, headspace is essentially a moot point. Adjust your sizing die to just fit the chamber and headspace becomes irrelevant. The only reason headspace is important is if you want to use factory loaded ammo. The headspace value is standardized for a cartridge so that ammo loaded by company A will fit a rifle made by company Z.
The only reason you should consider changing the bbl is if accuracy degrades below what you are willing to accept.
