Rem. 700 adl .223 action can it be.......

Considering the cost of the new SPS rifle, you will be better off keeping the .223 and getting a new .308. But it can be done. The bolt face would have to be opened up. The magazine modified, and a new follower installed. The feed rails too will have to be machined open and then a barrel sourced, chambered and headspaced.

What pharaoh2 said would be how I'd go. By the time you change your .223 to a .308 you will have spent more than what the new .308 will cost. Why are you switching and what kind of .308 do you want. If you really want to make something unique then by all means go for it, but if you just want the same style rifle in .308 save your money and spend it on ammo and good optics. Plus you will have your new gun asap, if you convert your existing gun, get ready to be patient.

Just my .2 cents, Homesteader

coverted to 308? or should one just start with a 308 setup?
Yes it can be converted, but only if you plan on building a custom rifle with the bells and whistles. Otherwise the cost is not worth it if you just plan on having just a factory rifle.

Bolt face needs opening up, new extractor installed, new barrel, etc.

i had the same decision for a custom rifle. i was quoted $150 to open up the bolt face and install sako extractor.

buy an SPS in 308 and its done.

thanks for the help. i'm just starting to wonder into this whole NON-Black rifle mess you guys got here. gets kinda confusing :)

The Savage action is more suited to your desires. Barrels and boltheads can be swapped in 20 minutes with a few simple tools, allowing switch barrel guns of many calibers.

They are shooters too.
