i have a rem 700 in 7mm saum, and occasionally when i slide my bolt out then in, it just catches on the lip of the internal magazine box, and my question is basically can i grind the top of the mag box slightly round or is there an underlying issue here that can fix this?
this issue started when i restocked the rifle back to a factory rem VSF stock(the hs precision tan one) and had to buy a used hinged floor plate, so maybe the issue is with the floor plate?
i can get pics if needed
any reply's would be appreciated
thanks

If the bottom of the magazine box is seated in the triggerguard assembly properly and the top of the box is hitting your bolt, either the receiver or the bottom metal or both are inletted too deep into the stock. You can correct this by shortening the magazine box slightly.

i was just looking at it and i noticed that the box didn't slide down into the floor plate, its just sitting on top of the edge of the floor plate, i will take it apart tomorrow and hopefully thats all it is:)
thats what i get for working on so early in the morn!

I have noticed on new 700's that when you are working the bolt,it can get hung up if you are exerting any downwards pressure while cycling it.Check to make sure its just not that before you go cutting anything.

you hit the nail on the head, the mag box wasn't seated all the way into the tigger guard.
when i put it back together last night, i seated the mag box into the bottom of the action then inserted it into the stock and when i placed the trigger guard in, the mag box sat on the top of the guard:redface:
works like a charm now:dancingbanana:
thanks
