Rem 700 bolt issue

I think it may be above your capabilities too... why not take it to a gunsmith for a quick simple inspection and diagnosis... it would take 5 minutes. Remove the scope and bases first. If it came into my shop it would be a free five minutes.

Thank for the suggestions. Hope its not a big expensive fix. I have only fired 20 factory rounds and 20 reloads for load development and already have a 5 shot group 0.548" @ 100 yrds.

Thanks again

Sounds like galled lugs to me if it closes hard with everything stripped off the rifle..........have you tried lubing the lugs and also check the bolt nose for contact at the back of the barrel..........generally speaking if the bolt nose is contacting the rear barrel face, they don't shoot worth a chit though.......How tough is it to open once the sear has been let down? As suggested before strip the bolt down and try it, galled lugs will still make it tough and grindy to close.

Check to ensure there is nothing fouling the extractor from engaging the rim properly while chambering a round

I have lubed the lugs and no change. There seems to be no issue with the extractor. I am hoping to get it by atrs friday or next week and see if they can figure it out.
