i adjusted the trigger on my 7 mag. i cycled the bolt may times all worked good. i was showing a buddy how good the trigger was when he lifted the bolt and now it won't go down into the noch in the stock. it only goes about half way. it appears to #### but the firing pin doesnt make contact with the primer when the trigger is pulled. it clickes and sounds like its firing. any one have any thoughts.
thanks ian

Do you have one of those damn ISS firing pin locks on your bolt shroud?

It could be it is locked and won't allow you to fire the gun or close the bolt.

I just bought a Remmy with one and can hardly wait to replace it with an original.

I'm not entirely familiar with them though, so I'm just guessing.

Otherwise, try setting the trigger back to where it was if possible. Maybe the sear relationship has changed.

Good luck!

it has no j lock and i never touched the sear screw. only adjusted overtravel and pull weight. the bolt just won't fully rotate closed. can the trigger cause that

If the bolt isn't fully down the firing pin can not protrude so no contact with the primer is normal..

It could be the front triggerguard screw is too long, preventing the bottom lug from rotating...

try it out of the stock...

with the action out of the stock the bolt still won't go all the way down. could it be related to the trigger. as i said it was funtioning fine then something happened.

remove the firing pin assembly from the bolt and see what that does. The problem could be with the firing pin assembly itself, the thread could be binding up in the bolt...or it could the cocking piece and it's relationship to the cocking cam.....removing the firing pin assembly should allow you to see what's going on...

well guys thanks for the ideas. i took the bolt apart all good. i was so frustrated that i took the scope off to check the bases. took the rear base off no change. just backed one frt screw of a tiny bit and the bolt closed. took out screw and a couple of passes with a file problem gone. not sure why its happened now maybe i tighted the action screws too tight after playing with the trigger. i'm just glad i finally figured it out.

Now lets talk about your trigger adjustment... often people adjust the over travel screw too much... make sure you have some overtravel that you can actually see and feel... too much is perfectly safe and has no detrimental affect on accuracy... too little is some circumstances can cause a dangerous situation with not firing when expected...

i wasn't trying to make the perfect trigger, only huntable. when i was finished there is maybe a milimeter or two of over travel. i don't mind that but the pull on new rems is terrible. i lightned it quite a bit but didn't play with the sear adjustment. its quite safe i tried pounding the but on concrete and it would't discharge. i think i'm being spoiled by my tikkas there good from the box.
